“You must really hate this job.” That’s what my boss said when I told him I was moving from San Diego to Siberia for a year. In reality, I was bored and looking for something that would be completely and utterly new. Whether it was sunstroke or a developing tolerance to margaritas, San Diego just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Heck, I hadn’t even gone to the beach in nine months and it was only a few blocks away. Time to rediscover a zest for life.
So that’s a little on how to set goals, now I want to stress something that I never took seriously until I achieved a major goal in my life. I had an enormous goal to earn a football scholarship to Vanderbilt University. I let this fuel my fire and, through a series of events, got my scholarship after only my first semester. This is where I hit a major stumbling block. But when a change comes, be it during the current presidency or the next one, the cost could be steep. A rise in interest rates doesn’t happen in a vacuum. There will be other consequences as well. The extra cost could just be enough to cause some to put off those investments, thereby slowing down the economy.
If the students or parents cannot afford varsity then other options need to be explored, maybe varsity is not for you. Many people have survived without tertiary education in the past and if jobs are not available, getting a degree will be meaningless. Alternatively, the students and or parents need to get a job/ second job. There are fare paying students that can afford to go to varsity and this behaviour is disruptive and detrimental to those students.
